Contact!

Sunday very early in the morning the contractor started the final stage of the stressing process of the cables. This night cars were not allowed on the bridge, so proper measurements could be made and the contact with the existing bridge could be made without vibrations caused by trafic.

At 6 in the morning there was enough force in the cables and traffic could return. The stressing is not ready yet. This night the bridge was lifted only 8 cm, which means another 40 cm will follow. This last part however can be done while traffic is using the bridge.

Second pylon ready as well

Last Thursday the second pylon was finished to start installing the cables. This means that 7 prefabricated concrete elements were placed on top of the buit in situ part. The concrete elements weigh up to 150 tons and have been placed using a 1200 ton crane. The pylons are now 50 m high.

First cables installed

Saturday, June 6th, the first cables have been installed. Enough strands have been installed to support the compression beam, but the construction is not yet connected to the existing bridge. This will be done in 2 weeks after the other pylon has been erected.
